History of the Tassel
The tassel has been symbolic of luxury and power throughout fashion and continues to be a classic in design. Dating back to 16th and 17th centuries, the tassel has been used in identifying military rank, royal and religious orders in many countries.
The roaring 20's saw the birth of the modern woman. Signifying revival from the first World War, and with the passing of the 19th amendment, tassels were widely worn during this time of independence, love, sexuality and all that jazz.
Fast forward to the 1970’s when everything was about “fringe” behavior. Women and all their tassels became more independent as sex discrimination was declared a violation of the 14th amendment, Roe vs Wade was at the forefront of newspaper headlines and Title IX was established.
Tassels have continued to adorn the runways throughout the decades and have survived any notion of being on trend to being classic and beautiful. Designers such as Chanel, Hermes, Mulberry, Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Oscar De La Renta, & Burberry have included tassels in their campaigns in recent years.
May you love your lariat and tassel design and may you love the life you lead with it!
